A THEORIE DES CORDES is a French quartet (guitar, keyboard, saxophone and drums). Seven mid-long instrumental pieces make "Premières Vibrations" (Musea Parallèle, 2011), a concept-album about the famous String Theory and its meaning regarding the place of Man in the Universe. Eight pieces for their second opus entitled "Singes Electriques" (2013), a double live (concept-)album, this time focusing on the reflection of human feelings, cultures, its excesses. Here is a very peculiar band of Progressive Jazz-Rock, complex but not show off, somewhere between Frank ZAPPA, GONG, SOFT MACHINE, CARAVAN, Steve COLEMAN, E.S.T., John ZORN and Allan HOLDSWORTH. We find again Mathieu TORRES (guitar) and Stephanie ARTAUD (piano & bass-piano), backbone of the band, with the evidence that, compared to the first album, the line-up was changed with the arrival of Fah PIGNY instead of Tadzio GOTTBERG on drums and those of Julien LANGLOIS (Sax tenor & Clarinet) and Alexandre HENRI (guest bass guitar) replacing Maxime JASLIER (guest Sax alto, soprano & bass guitar), while maintaining this rich and complex musical structure makes the specificity of LA THEORIE DES CORDES. The music is fluid, lively and dynamic, sometimes approaching Eastern Europe music, free jazz or close to metal at times. LA THEORIE DES CORDES is definitely a stage band, the richness of their music emphasizes various harmonic variations and improvisations. "Premières Vibrations" and "Singes Electriques" further enhanced by beautiful booklets, full of poems and images. To be discovered if it is not yet already done!
